Covered Trenches

This is a type of in ground structure that made by digging a trench in the ground, then lining the walls with wooden support posts which can be spaced apart or form a solid wall. It is then lined with another layer of bricks, compacted earth bags, or sod bricks which can be further covered with adobe facade. Or you can use just wood. The floors can be left bare or covered with bricks. The roof is made from a basic wooden a frame that sits over the top and is covered by dirt. There are ventilation shafts that function as skylights or allow for smoke to rise up. There are also fireplaces and chimneys.
